| Al JADIDA evokes the atmosphere of the bazaars of Cairo and Istanbul and combines it with the pulse of New York, quite unlike anything you've heard or seen before. The melancholic cry of Phil's oud and Paul Holleman on the soprano saxophone will transport you from silent dreams of shifting desert sands to the frenzied passion of driving dance music.
Al Jadida was formed nearly 10 years ago by Paul Holleman and Phil Gunter, who felt the need to express their diverse musical tastes and experiences in a new and fresh format. In 2000 they released their debut CD titled “Gypsies in an Urban Desert”, followed by a second CD "World Confusion", under the name "Jadida", with vocalist Beulah Joseph in 2003.
