Jadida, ‘The Camel Returns’

“BAR 303” Sunday 28th Sept, 3-6pm

Jadida proves its name (‘Jadida’ means ‘new’ in Arabic) by reinventing itself for their return to the local Melbourne music scene. Jadida has been renowned as a world music fusion group over the last 10 years, with performances at Port Fairy, Apollo Bay, Globe to Globe, Melbourne International Jazz Festival and many others. The group was awarded two Australia Council CD recording grants for their albums ‘Gypsies in an Urban Desert’ and ‘World Confusion’.

For their performance at “BAR 303”, band leader Paul Holleman has put together a refreshing new line up, performing new material and previous compositions in new arrangements.

The original line up of:
Phil Gunter, oud, darabukka
Rohan Anderson, drums, percussion
Beulah Joseph, vocals
Paul Holleman, saxes

Is enriched by:
Azura, contemporary ‘fusion’ belly dance! (see photo below)
Bec Matthews on kora (African harp), trumpet, doun doun (African drum) and vocal,
Richard Bradbeer on double bass
